How to forget about That Man – 100% success rate.

Beauty is a manifestation of secret natural laws, which otherwise would have been hidden from us forever.

Johann Wolfgang Goethe

Working for myself, from home, affords me the privilege of being able to get out of the house and spend time under the skies, in beautiful places. Last Thursday I invited my trusty camera to join me on a visit to Northey Street City Farm, in the heart of Brisbane. Together we had a blast, seeing soooooo many things. And yet, I have no doubt we observed only a fraction of what was there. Maybe it’s a sign of ageing, but for me a healthy lush garden is a wonderful world of delightful distractions. Go and spend time in one as soon as you can. It will do you an immeasurable amount of good. And it’s guaranteed to help you forget about Tony Abbott for as long as you’re there (if you don’t know who he is, then consider yourself lucky).

And Now for Something a Bit More Enchanting

It’s taken me a while to be at peace with being in London.  It’s a city that makes me feel like it could swallow me up.  Nothing like bewitching Granada.  A world away from human-sized wonderful Amsterdam.  London is a monster.

And yet…there is something here too to help me warm to the city.  I’ve found the hook: London’s beautiful parks and green spaces.  The winter landscapes, strange and alien to a Brisbane girl’s eyes, evoking buried memories of a childhood spent in Tasmania, Victoria..places where the leaves do change colour and fall off the trees denuding the branches and revealing splendid tree skeletons.

Yes, it’s been cold and wet and grey but there are often patches of colour too – blue sky (sometimes), russet leaves and green lawns.  In London it’s possible to walk for hours in parks and completely forget about the swarm of commerce and concrete of the city.
